Local BeachesThe nearest beach is less than a mile away and within walking distance of Sun Valley Resort. If you think that Pentewan Beach looks familiar it is because it was used back in 1989 to film a black stallion galloping across the golden sands for a Lloyds Bank TV advert.
Near the historic village of Charlestown is Porthpean a sandy beach popular with families that is accessed via the car park, you can bring dogs here out of season. Toilets are available. The next local beaches are on either side of the Charlestown port, these are privately owned beaches where you will be welcome but dogs are not allowed at any time.
Gorran Haven beach is an east-facing sand and shingle beach beside the very pretty village and harbour of Gorran Haven near Mevagissey. Popular with families for swimming and surfing, access to the beach is a short walk from the car park. There is a beach shop and a pub. Richard Curtis’s latest box office smash rom-com ‘About Time’ was filmed against the backdrop of Gorran Haven.
Porthluney Cove at Caerhays is a privately owned, secluded family beach with a large expanse of golden sand that's popular with local people. South facing, in front of Caerhays Castle, the beach enjoys a striking backdrop. The beach is dog friendly all year round. There's plenty of room for games, the beach is good for swimming and parking is directly behind the beach. Seasonal cafe, picnic area and toilet facilities are available.
To visit the grounds of Caerhays castle is an opportunity not to be missed especially as they are only open to the public around easter time.
The beaches at Carlyon Bay can be reached via the coast path to the east from Charlestown and have vehicle access and a golf course. Par Sands is backed by dunes, is completely south facing and is good for paddling and swimming. Dogs are welcome on this beach all year round.
